Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Ultimate Fighting Game Championship?
It's a tournament similar to a fantasy-league where players select a set of characters with the goal of earning the most points throughout the tournament. The tournament uses the Multiverse Final Battle game as the official fight simulator between all the characters. The tournament roster consist of characters from Marvel, DC, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, DBZ, Olympian Mythology, and Movies.
Why the Multiverse Final Battle?
The Multiverse Final Battle has a roster that consists of popular and significant characters of the different fighting games and comic book universe. This game is also the most balanced game out there compared to other custom crossover fighting games. The method of which the characters are balanced out are outlined in the Ultimate Fighting Game Guide found in this site.
What is MUGEN?
MUGEN is the program behind the Multiverse Final Battle. Here's the Official Mugen Wikipedia page. For short, mugen is a software that allows non-programmers to create their own custom fighting game. Mugen also enables casual gamers to very easily make edits to ready-made games and edit game elements itself such as characters and stages. Since it's release, enthusiasts from all over the world have made their contribution to the the mugen community making it possible for anyone to basically "drag and drop" a custom game with the characters and stages of their choosing. It is of course a bit more complicated than that but it's still a lot simpler than actual game programming. We've created The Ultimate Fighting Games Guide to make it even simpler to get into Mugen eliminating all the hard work and trial and error.
What is this site about?
The main purpose of this site is to create a community for all fighting game / superhero / comic book / action movie fans out there via The Ultimate Fighting Game Fantasy Tournament. To finally see which of our favorite heroes/villains will prevail in the greatest and final battle for supremacy. Via a Mugen game, people can "simulate" fights between their favorite characters (watch mode: AI vs AI) that otherwise would never had met and see who really has the edge. People can also compete against other people or test their skills against 1 or 2 simultaneous computer opponents in a variety of fighting modes. Because of all these wonderful possibilities we decided to create a guide that will facilitate anyone that is new or have never heard of mugen to get into this hobby fast and virtually eliminate the learning curve. We've also provided links in the Guide to ready-to-play games for people that can't wait to start playing. But the guide also have something for the veterans of the mugen scene such as links to little known sites, rare characters, etc. There's basically something for everybody. Our hope is that this guide will enable anyone to put together their own version of the Ultimate Fighting Game... or simply enjoy the collection of games we have reviewed included in the Guide.
Tell me more about The Multiverse Final Battle.
We've included links and reviews to many ready-to-play games in our Guide including the Multiverse Final Battle. We feel it's a top notch game for many reasons. It's a compilation of the most popular games ever created plus some original concepts / add-ons / characters never before seen and put it all into one BIG game. The game lets you pit characters like Superman, Silver Surfer, Thor, Wolverine, Spiderman, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Batman, Ryu, Guile, Bison, Akuma, Scorpion, Subzero, Shao Kahn, Sindel, Motaro, Darth Vader, Predator, Fulgore, Orchid, Super Goku, Muscle Power, etc. against each other in a variety of fighting modes. There is a huge character roster (150+) with plenty of hidden characters. Only serious fighters are included! The best stages and sounds were also collected for all your fightin' pleasure. The game has 7 modes to choose from:
Arcade Go 1 on 1 against the computer
Versus Go 1 on 1 against your friend
Team Arcade Play various team-up modes against the computer
Team Versus Play various team-up modes against your friend
Survival See how long you can last in an endless battle!
Training Try out moves and combos
Watch Watch AI-controlled characters fight (1 on 1, 2 on 2, 2 on 1, etc.)
Options Set up basic game options
Exit Returns you to the DOS prompt
As previously mentioned, the game consists of characters (and in some cases different versions of the same character) from games / universes like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Marvel, DC, World Heroes, Killer Instinct, Dragon Ball Z, Movie Characters (i.e. Predator, Star Wars, etc.), and many more.....
The game is also customized so that it is balanced while also remaining true to each fighters skills and powers from their original story lines i.e. any character can beat any other character although certain characters will have some/definite advantage over other characters. For example while it possible for Dhalsim to beat Superman, he would have a hard time as Superman will only take very little damage from Dhalsim. At the same time Superman is also able to dish out a lot of damage to Dhalsim. But on the flipside, Dhalsim could have moves that could be problematic for the man of steel to overcome. The game brings an array of methods to balance out the characters. As for how this is possible story-wise, what typically happens in these crossover battles is that "physical laws" change when different dimensions and universes merge into one reality making everyone on a somewhat level playing field.
What are the system requirements for a typical mugen game?
The recommended hard drive space would be 10GB. This should be more than enough for most games. Some games would only need less than 2GB so it really varies. The game works on PCs with Windows XP or higher. There are currently projects that will enable you to play mugen on your smartphone or on other platforms - this will be discussed in the guide.
Can I use gamepad controllers? Can I connect 2 controllers and use it simultaneusly?
Yes you can. You can connect 2 controllers at the same time to your PC and play just like you would your other game console like the PS and XBOX. The Guide contains instructions on how to do this.
Will Mugen cause my computer to crash?
We have tested Mugen games with Windows XP and Vista and it has proven to work well. While no software program is completely "crash-free," the same rule applies to this game. It is a software by the way and can crash too from time to time. If this happens, you can simply reset/reboot your computer. If for some reason your computer doesn't go back to its original state, you can always do a System Restore and set the restore to a time just before the incident happened.
Please note that it might take a minute or so for the game to load initially. This depends on your computer speed. Please don't think the game is broken and give it some time to load.
Can I play this game on other game consoles like PS2, PS3, XBOX, Wii, etc.?
There is currently a way to play Mugen on your smartphone. Some people have also shared playing this with their XBOX. There is an active project to bring it to other platforms and the progress we've seen is very promising. More info on this is discussed in the Guide.
